Abstract Prekomjerno iskorištavanje prirodnih resursa i negativan utjecaj na cjelokupnu prirodu rezultiralo je degradacijom tla, izumiranjem vrsta, padom stupnja biološke raznolikosti, onečišćenja vode i kvalitete zraka. Sustav upravljanja zaštićenim područjem je kompleksan i detaljan, definiraju ga strategije i planovi upravljanja kojim se nastoji očuvati optimalno stanje prirode sa minimalnim interferiranjem.
Abstract (english) Overexploitation of natural resources and negative impact on the entire nature has resulted in soil degradation, extinction of species, decrease in the level of biological diversity, water pollution and air quality. Public institutions for the management of protected nature areas are required to design a management plan in accordance with the categories of protection in order to reduce the negative impact on nature, and above all on biological diversity. In the protected nature area, monitoring of habitats and species of flora and fauna is carried out, a plan and activities are established and implemented with the aim of preserving biological diversity, maintaining autochthonous species and reintroduction, monitoring the appearance of invasive species, and managing visits. The research for the purposes of this work was done on the example of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The area of the Plitvice Lakes National Park is an area rich in diverse species and habitat types and is included in the IPA (Important Plant Area) database. Of the entire plant community of the Republic of Croatia, about 30% of the plant community is located in the park area, of which we count 72 endemic species. For the biological diversity of the fauna, it is important to single out 21 species of bats, of which 11 are endangered. Among large mammals, the trend is considered to be stable for bears and wolves, however, their monitoring may be endangered because they also move outside the borders of the park. The level of biological diversity in the park is very good, and it is important to maintain and preserve the current state. Visitors make a large part of the influence, depending on the behavior negative or positive. Sustainable tourism implies a visit to a national park or other protected area while adhering to the measures and rules announced for a specific area, the visiting system requires constant monitoring and improvement. The management system of the protected area is complex and detailed, defined by strategies and management plans that strive to preserve the optimal state of nature with minimal interference
