Sustainable development become a part of modern thinking of the whole global society. To be more precise, sustainable development is a global political agreement which seeks for an equilibrium between social, economic and ecologic aspects from local to global. The European Union created a concept, that deals with the answers to various sustainable qouestions. Examples are environmental protevtion with the political key functions moving to sustainable production and consumption, environmental resource management under acceptable ecological circumstances and the process od educating the broad public about negative outcomes and risks, as well as the overall pruduction od environmental friendly products. Furthermore guidelines for all members countries of the European union are published. The implementation of environmental laws for the economy in relation to sustainable development displays general principles and possibilities for the new, competitive, dynamic and knowledge-based growth of the European economy for the third millennium. The European union has a variety of available political and financial instruments, that can be used to achieve the objectives in sustainable development. In research the efficiency of these instruments, as well as factors that are known for its application, are examined.
