Abstract
The theme of this work is the electric railway and its application in the Republic of Croatia. The second chapter is about the history of electric trains, how they arise, how they developed and a number of other facts. In the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters we will explain types of electricity used to power the trains. Furthermore, we will explain the ways trains receive electricity and many other details related to the supply of electricity to the train. In Croatia only a certain part of railway works on the principle of electric railways. Most of the Croatian railway is intended for diesel-electric locomotives. Diesel-electric locomotives are the standard type of drive for the Croatian Railways. Therefore, in this paper we will dedicate more attention to the parts of the railway which use electricity to drive.
