Abstract
Vijeće Europe je međunarodna organizacija koja za cilj ima zaštitu temeljnih ljudskih prava i sloboda. U ovu je organizaciju učlanjeno 47 država diljem Europe. Vijeće Europe čine institucije: Odbor ministara, Parlamentarna skupština, Europski sud za ljudska prava, Kongres lokalnih i regionalnih vlasti Eruope, Povjerenik za ljudska prava te Tajništvo. U cilju promicanja zaštite ljudskih prava i ubrzavanja tog procesa utemeljen je jedinstveni Europski sud za ljudska prava. Najvažniji međunarodni ugovor Vijeća kojim se također štite temeljna ljudska prava i slobode jest Europska konvencija o ljudskim pravima koja utvrđuje popis prava i sloboda koje su države obvezne jamčiti svakoj osobi unutar svog teritorija. Europski sud za ljudska prava ima nadzornu ulogu u vidu utvrđivanja je li povrijeđeno neko od prava zajamčenih Konvencijom.
Abstract (english)
The Council of Europe is an international organization which aim is to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms. This organization has 47 member countries across the Europe. The Council of Europe consists of following institutions: Committee of Ministers, Parliamentary Assembly, European Court of Human Rights, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Commissioner for Human Rights and Secretariat. In order to promote the protection of human rights and to accelerate the process Council of Europe has established European Court of Human Rights. The most important international agreement of the Council, which is also protecting fundamental rights and freedoms is the European Convention on Human Rights, which establishes a list of rights and freedoms which states are obliged to guarantee to any person within its territory. The European Court of Human Rights has an oversight role in terms of establishing whether any of the rights guaranteed by the Convention are violated.
