Paris is the first city with public lighting in 1876. thanks to the Russian, Pavel Yablochkov, while Nikola Tesla is credited for the first public lighting in Republic of Croatia, in town of Šibenik. Public lighting affect on traffic safety. Traffic safety from the driver's perspective take place through the sense of sight, from which the driver gets 95% of information. In a situation of poor visibility due to bad weather conditions or because of the dark, lighting plays important role. Intersections, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, tunnels and viaducts are places of specific public lighting due to the higher possibility of a traffic accident. Today, the public lighting is developing in the direction of making the labor and maintenance costs as low as possible and to reduce light pollution.
