A new view of the aging population, as well as the economic benefits associated with it, has led to the development of the silver economy. This approach reduces the negative effects of ageing population through interventions aimed at creating new measures and strategies that would prevent further ageing of the population. The main characteristic of the silver economy is that it is intended for people over 50 years and aims to perceive the elderly population as an advantage to gain economic benefits and dispel myths related to aging that remain a burden in economy terms. One of the most important guidelines of the silver economy is the prolongation of working life following completed retirement conditions, and this is one of the essential strategies of successful countries that represent the largest market of the silver economy in Europe and the world. This paper elaborates on the concept of the silver economy, provides examples of countries that are successful in the implementation of their silver economy strategies, and analyzes the possibility of developing silver economy in the Republic of Croatia.
