Abstract
Europska unija ističe važnost poštivanja ljudskih prava te posebnu pozornost posvećuje njihovoj zaštiti. Politikom ljudskih prava EU aktivno promiče i štiti temeljna ljudska prava kako unutar svojih granica, tako i u odnosima s trećim zemljama. Ljudsko dostojanstvo, sloboda, demokracija, jednakost, vladavina prava i poštovanje ljudskih prava vrijednosti su koje su ugrađene u temelje ugovora Europske unije. U Povelji EU-a o temeljnim pravima jasno su definirana prava građana EU-a. Povelja predstavlja pravni temelj zaštite ljudskih prava na razini EU-a, dok su na nacionalnoj razini temeljna prava zajamčena ustavnom sustavom svake države. Sve institucije EU-a (Komisija, Parlament i Vijeće) imaju svoju ulogu u zaštiti ljudskih prava. Prustupom EU Povelja je postala dio pravnog poretka Republike Hrvatske. Temeljne vrijednosti i prava EU, poput poštivanja ljudskog dostojanstva, slobode, jednakosti i demokracije, kao i prava manjina, i sl. sastavni su dio Ustava RH.
Abstract (english)
The European Union underlines the importance of respecting human rights and pays special attention to its protection. EU human rights policy actively promotes and protects fundamental human rights, both within its borders and in its relations with third countries. Human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights are values that are built into the foundations of the EU treaties. The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights clearly defined the rights of EU citizens. The Charter represents the legal basis for the protection of human rights at EU level, while at national level, fundamental rights are guaranteed by the constitutional system of each country. All EU institutions (Commission, Parliament and Council) have a role in protecting the human rights. By accessing the EU Charter has become part of the Croatian legal system. The fundamental values of the EU law are respect for human dignity, freedom, equality and democracy, and the rights of minorities, etc. and those are an integral part of the Constitution.
