The problem of mistreatment and neglect of children is not exclusively conditioned by geographic, cultural, social, or materialistic factors. The causes of its existence lies deep in the abuser's psyche and reaches until his earliest childhood. By closing the eyes to the problem or believing that these violence occurs only in another society, other social circle or some other neighborhood, just move us away from the fact that it does exist, while saving ourselves from the unpleasant contents favors the illusion of a "pink" situation which does not mobilize people to engage and iniciate concrete action. State Institute for the Protection of the Family, Maternity and Youth (or The National Institute for Family, Maternity and Youth) by developing expert analyzes and studies, by holding roundtables in their program activities, undertakes continuous activities to propose measures for dealing with such harmful and dangerous situations for the child. But, only the work of the institutions is not enough. In order to make a significant contribution to the reduction of this problem, it is necessary to encourage the responsibility of every citizen.
