Abstract
Ured Visokog povjerenika Ujedinjenih naroda za izbjeglice, poznatije pod kraticom UNHCR, je agencija UN-a za pomoć izbjeglicama, koju je osnovala Opća skupština 14.prosinca 1950.godine. Ured Visokog povjerenika je smješten u Ženevi, u Švicarskoj. Na čelu ove agencije nalazi se Visoki povjerenik, trenutno Filippo Grandi, za razdoblje od 01.siječnja 2016. Do 31.prosinca 2020.godine. On je kao voditelj UNHCR-a odgovoran usmjeravati i nadzirati rad UNHCR-a. Ured Visokog povjerenika je jedan od specijaliziranih programa osnovanih unutar samih UN-a, tzv. „pobočnih organa UN-a“. Osnovano je kao privremeno tijelo za zaštitu izbjeglica, no kako je broj izbjeglica samo rastao, mandat Ureda Visokog povjerenika za izbjeglice stalno se produžavao. Njegova je glavna svrha zaštita prava i dobrobiti izbjeglica, te pronalaženje trajnog rješenja za njihovu zaštitu. Uz to nastoji pružiti pomoć osobama bez državljanstva, te osigurati ostalima pravo na azil.
Abstract (english)
Office United Nations of the High Commissioner for Refugees, better known by its acronym UNHCR, is the agency of United Nations for help to refugees, which was founded by General Assembly on the 14th of December, 1950. The High Commissioner Office is situated in Geneve in Switzerland. On the top of his Agency is High Commissioner, currently Filippo Grandi, for the period of 01th January 2016. untill 31th 2020. As the head of UNHCR, he is responsible to focus and control the work of UNHCR. The High Commissioner Office is one of the specialized programs established within United Nations, so called „collateral organs“ of UN. It is established as temporary body for the protect of refugees, but according to the fact that the number of refugees was growing, mandate of the High Commisioner Office for refugees was constantly getting longer. Its main purpose is to protect the rights and benefits of refugees and finding of the permanent solution for their protection. In addition to this, the Office tries to help to the people without citizenship and to ensure the right to asylum to the other people.
