There are two legal choices of entering into a marriage in Republic of Croatia: civil marriage in front of registrar or religious marriage with the effects of civil marriage in front of official of religious community which has law regulated relation about that with Republic of Croatia. Marriage is legally regulated community between man and wife. In order for a marriage could be concluded, it is necessary for the bride and groom to declare consent for marriage in front of registrar or religious community official. Bride and groom can choose any place in Croatia for entering into a marriage. They will inform their intention of entering into civil or religious marriage to the registrar responsible for the place where wedding will be performed. Registrar will determine whether legal requirements are satisfied for entering into a marriage and arrange time and place of wedding for civil marriage or issue a Certificate of prerequisites for religious marriage when bride and groom declare to want enter into religious marriage with effects of civil marriage. Registrar will register a concluded civil marriage into a book of married immediately and issue an excerpt from the book of married to the spouses which confirms that marriage is concluded. Registrar will register a concluded religious marriage into a book of married when he receives a properly signed and verified Certificate of marriage in a religious ceremony sent by religious community official. After the registration of marriage, registrar will issue an excerpt from the book of married to the spouses as a confirmation that marriage has legal effects from the date of marriage.
