Abstract
Vijeće Europe kao međunarodna organizacija ima cilj zaštite temeljnih ljudskih prava i sloboda na području europskog kontinenta. Obuhvaća 47 država članica. Organi Vijeća su: Odbor ministara, Parlamentarna skupština, Europski sud, Kongres lokalnih i regionalnih vlasti, Mješoviti odbor, Specijalizirana tijela, Povjerenik za ljudska prava i Tajništvo. Europski sud prati usklađenost sa Europskom Konvencijom o ljudskim pravima i mora osigurati poštivanje obveza preuzetih Konvencijom. Konvencija je temeljni dokument zaštite prava ljudi Vijeća Europe. Potpisana je u Rimu 4. studenog 1950., a na snagu stupa 1953. Ratifikacijom od strane osam zemalja. Sve članice Vijeća Europe, potpisale su Konvenciju i time postale obvezne na njenu primjenu.
Abstract (english)
The Council of Europe as an international organization aims to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms in the European continent. The organization has 47 state members. The Council consists of following institutons: Committee of Ministers, the Parlamentary Assembly, the European Court, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the Mixed Committee, the Specialized Bodies, the Human Rights Commissioner and the Secretariat. The European Court monitors compliance with the obligations assumed by the Convention. The European Convention is the fundamental document of the Council of Europe regarding on the protection of human rights. It was signed in Rome on November 4th, 1950., and came into effect in 1953. by ratification by eight countries. All members of the Council of Europe signed the Convention by which they became obligated for its application.
